Fantasy: The role for Jackson Hately in 2021

The 2021 role for Jackson Hately has become clearer over the last week, he requested a trade to Adelaide in the upcoming 2020 trade period.

The move to the Crows will provide more of an opportunity in the midfield for Hately, he was well down the midfield depth chart at the Giants this season.

“He wants to be an inside midfielder in the AFL” David Trotter (Hemisphere Management Group) on Jackson Hately via @1116sen on October 6th.

Adelaide Head of Football Adam Kelly has also forecast Hately to be part of the midfield rotation in 2021.

“He’s something different to our midfield mix, being 190cm midfielder he works extremely hard” Crows Head of Football Adam Kelly via @1629senSA on Monday.

Hately averaged 13.7 Disposals, 4.7 Marks & 2.3 Tackles in 2020, he was selected at Pick 14 in the 2018 AFL Draft.

Hately averaged 57.8pts from 6 games in 2020, he was used at 48.3% of CBA’s in the 2020 pre-season & 0.0% in the H&A season for the Giants.

The opportunities at the Crows will increase the midfield usage for Hately, he’ll join Matt Crouch, Rory Sloane & Rory Laird in that rotation with Brad Crouch likely to depart as a restricted free agent.

Expect the scores to increase for Hately as a result, he likely offers significant value based on his 2021 Round 1 salary in AFL Fantasy Classic.

Hately won’t be a sleeper in draft leagues in 2021 with his ADP set to rise, if you can grab him in a cheap trade in dynasty/keeper leagues it’s worth asking the question now before pre-season games commence & he’s lining up in the Crows midfield.
