Collingwood 7.6 48 v Melbourne 11.6 72

Holden Centre, February 22

Conditions were ideal in what turned out to be a decent hit out for both teams, Melbourne were quite efficient in the forward line as well as having a strong advantage in the Ruck.

New Rules

6-6-6 Start Positions

Players starting inside 50 were not able to impact the initial centre bounce contest, the stronger clearances players will have an advantage over their opponents with this rule.

There were minimal secondary stoppages.

Game Notes: Carlton v Hawthorn

Kick-ins

Most players elected to dispose of the ball outside the goal square, there was a mix between the ball landing between 25-50m & outside 50.

Short kick-ins between 0-25m have been just about non-existent from 2 games (Carlton v Hawthorn & Collingwood v Melbourne).

Fantasy News Today: 21 February, 2019

Max Gawn
Dominated his position against Max Lynch early, when Preuss was on the ground & forward Gawn played a loose type defender role ready for an intercept mark when the ball was locked into the Melbourne forward line, the Demons were setting up this structure multiple times, also played deep defence ready for intercept marks as a loose. Gawn mostly played the Ruck role when on the ground except when the ball was in the Demons forward line which resulted in Preuss attending ball-ups & throw-ins.

Michael Hibberd
Same role as last year out of defence.

Brayden Preuss
Started forward early, impacted scoreboard, was a tough match-up for Collingwood defence, spent some time in the Ruck in forward line & when Gawn wasn’t on the ground, he had a positive impact but still a touch raw, Tom McDonald didn’t play.

Aaron vandenBerg
Attended a high number of centre bounces, clearance work was good, found plenty of it.

Sam Weideman
Impacted the scoreboard from his forward role.

Tom Sparrow
Attended a few centre bounces.

Marty Hore
Looked composed across half-back, managed to take a couple of kick-ins, his delivery by foot was good, didn’t look out of place at all.

Jeff Garlett
Was lively, provided some run through the middle in transition to the forward line at times.
