Chad Wingard is unlikely to be available for his Hawthorn debut in Round 1 after another setback, he has been dealing with a calf injury for the last month.

The Hawks have a history of taking time with injured players & Wingard is no exception, the additional time will allow for a full recovery.

“Unfortunately, it is unlikely Chad will be fit for Round 1 against Adelaide,”

“He has been incredibly dedicated since arriving at the club and we are sure he will apply this same level of commitment throughout this next stage of his recovery.” Hawthorn GM of Football, Graham Wright.

Wingard averaged 20.8 Disposals & kicked 22 Goals for Port Adelaide last season, he has kicked 232 career Goals from 147 games at an average of 1.6 per game.

AFL FANTASY TAKE

Wingard would have likely been a target by a small percentage of fantasy coaches looking to take some of the points available with the absence of Tom Mitchell, his unlikely start in Round 1 will send his current ownership in a downward spiral.

The news is good for those willing to take a serious look at James Worpel, he was impressive last week in a practice match against Carlton.

Worpel averaged 20.0 Disposals in his final 8 games for Hawthorn in 2018.
