Centre Bounce Summary:

Hawthorn

Tom Mitchell recorded a team high 80.8% CBA’s in Round 1, he was closely followed by Jaeger O’Meara at 73.1%. James Worpel (57.7%) maintained a decent level of midfield usage with the return of Mitchell, Chad Wingard recorded 38.5% of team CBA’s with Liam Shiels at 30.8%.

With the emergence of James Worpel & the absence of Tom Mitchell last season an adjustment was inevitable in the Hawthorn midfield, Mitchell & O’Meara were used at a high rate in Round 1 & that should hold throughout the 2020 season.

Worpel will no doubt be used as often as possible through the midfield with Chad Wingard rotating in at CBA’s to provide a different dynamic, Liam Shiels looks to be the one to be negatively impacted in what is now an extremely strong Hawks midfield.

Brisbane

Lachie Neale was used at a very high rate at centre bounces in Round 1, he recorded 96.2% of team CBA’s well ahead of No.2 ranked Jarryd Lyons (65.4%). Hugh McCluggage recorded 53.8% of team CBA’s along with Dayne Zorko at 46.2%, Cam Rayner (23.1%) provided another option through the middle of the ground at times.

The CBA numbers at Brisbane were consistent with the 2020 Marsh Community Series, Dayne Zorko has seen a decline in usage over the last 12 months with the emergence of Hugh McCluggage.

The high usage for Lachie Neale will likely remain throughout the 2020 season, his output could be interrupted/determined by opposition teams applying a negating player at CBA’s & stoppages.
