Caleb Serong

Caleb Serong will look to increase his midfield usage in 2021, he was selected at pick 8 in the 2019 AFL Draft & won the 2020 Rising Star Award in 2020.

Serong played 14 games in his first year at AFL level, he averaged 16.9 Disposals, 2.3 Marks & 4.1 Tackles.

“He’s a beauty, we had a lot of wet games this year a lot of wet weather footy and I remember the game against Geelong he was just so clean in everything that he did. He played on one of the best players in the competition in Patrick Dangerfield but he was just so clean and it just shows how much work he puts in during the week.” Dockers senior coach Justin Longmuir via Daniel Garb podcast.

Serong made his AFL debut in Round 4, he was used at 51.7% of total team centre bounces for the 2020 season (Fremantle Rank 2) & 70.7% of total team centre bounces between Rounds 11-18 (Fremantle Rank 1).

Heading into his second pre-season at Fremantle Serong will look to build on his fitness base, he spoke to the media on Monday about improving his fitness & playing role for the 2021 season.

“I think for me the fitness side of things as an inside mid is the biggest thing I can continually improve, especially with the quarters most likely going up next year and being out there for a bit longer.” Caleb Serong.

AFL FANTASY TAKE

Serong averaged 66.6pts from 14 games in 2020, he scored a season high 101pts in Round 18 against Melbourne.

The midfield usage for Serong in his first year was at a very high level, his contested ball work & ability to accumulate disposals should transfer into an elite fantasy scoring future.

Serong averaged 83.3pts from his final 4 games of the 2020 H&A season, there is upside available on his fantasy output of 2020 next season.

In AFL Fantasy classic the ownership is likely to be low with many overlooking a second year player, however with his expected high midfield usage he still should be a consideration at Round 1.

Serong is also likely to be overlooked early in 10 team standard draft leagues, he should start to become a consideration if he’s still available at the midway point on draft night.
