Hawthorn forward Jack Gunston will miss the start of the 2021 H&A season, he underwent back surgery today.
Gunston had been in discomfort recently, after consultation with the Hawks medical team & his surgeon the option of surgery was undertaken.

“Jack has had some issues with his back in recent years and we’ve been able to manage it conservatively, recently however it hasn’t settled and in consultation with Jack, our doctors and his surgeon we believe surgery is in his best interest going forward,”

Gunston averaged 11.3 Disposals, 4.3 Marks & 1.9 Goals from 16 of 17 games in 2020, he has played in 94.6% of games since the beginning of the 2013 H&A season.

The Gunston injury opens up an opportunity early in the season for a key floating tall at the Hawks, with James Sicily already sidelined with an ACL Hawthorn are already under pressure for tall players to begin the 2021 H&A season.
Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson has a history of unexpected & unusual positions for players, from a fantasy perspective it’s accepting this might cause some type of volatility with regards to player positions for the short term early next season.
