Marcus Bontempelli has provided clarity on his role this season, with the 20 minute quarter length combined with the reduced interchange cap down to 75 there may be a shift in a midfield-forward percentage split.
“The opportunities to probably impact the scoreboard more is something I’ve continued to work on & look for.”
“Probably with the game time going back out to regular this season it will help, I’ll probably spend different periods of the time forward or longer periods of time forward in some games coming up which will give me the opportunity to do so.” Bontempelli said on RSN Tuesday morning.

“You’re always looking for a greater ability to influence, and that’s probably one that I feel like especially the best players but the best mids in the competition are able to do on a regular basis,”
“Hopefully it’s something I can help support our other forwards & key forwards in doing so.”
Bontempelli stated he wasn’t changing body size with the potential increase in time forward, he is still likely to play a fair amount of time through the midfield this season.Â
“Clearly I’m still targeting a more predominantly a midfield game” Bontempelli added.

AFL FANTASY TAKE
Marcus Bontempelli averaged 83.8pts last season, he scored a season high 145pts against Adelaide in Round 12.
Multiple factors will influence the midfield usage for several Bulldogs players in 2021, the addition of Adam Treloar has provided extra high end depth to an already deep midfield.Â
With the reduction in interchange cap this season teams will adjust accordingly, we already know under Bulldogs senior coach Luke Beveridge he does move the magnets around wildly at times which can impact consistent fantasy output.

Unfortunately we are down to likely just a couple of practice matches (with possible little information if played behind closed doors due to Covid) & one AAMI Series game, the midfield situation at the Bulldogs is likely to be unknown until well & truly into the 2021 H&A season.Â
Bontempelli is likely a wait & see in AFL Fantasy classic to begin the season, his position likely increases a couple of positions in 10 team standard draft leagues.
Here is why:
Keep an eye on the midfield-forward split percentage throughout the year for Bontempelli, if the forward usage increases enough a potential DPP FWD position may be possible.Â
