Fantasy: The role for Todd Goldstein in 2021

Todd Goldstein is set for a role adjustment this season, the Kangaroos No.1 ruck may see an increase in forward usage this season.

With the interchange cap coming down to 75 this season AFL teams are working through scenarios to adjust to the new level which was previously at 90, new Kangaroos coach David Noble will also have his own ideas as far as game style & roles are set out for this season which includes Goldstein.

“I like the fact of when I’ve seen him on occasions go forward & it’s probably more been out of the ruck, but I think Goldy can roll through the forward end as a forward.” David Noble via SEN on Wednesday.

An increase in forward percentage this year may increase the time spent on ground for Goldstein, Noble suggested Nick Larkey could spend time at the ruck position while Goldstein plays forward.

“That will lend itself to having maybe a looking at Larkey in the ruck.” Noble added.

AFL FANTASY TAKE

Goldstein averaged 79.6pts in 2020, he scored a season high 127pts against GWS in Round 2.

With his time on ground percentage some chance to increase this season there is the possibility for an increase in average as a result, however this may be offset with time spent forward in a team that may struggle to hit the scoreboard in 2021.

Goldstein is an option to start at Round 1 in AFL Fantasy classic, the 32 year old is likely to be lowly owned. Consider Goldstein a strong option when there is a run on the ruck position in 10 team standard draft leagues.
