There is clarification on the specific role for Lachie Ash this season, former Giants captain Phil Davis said Ash will play more across the half back line in 2021.

Ash played 12 games in his first season at GWS in 2020, he averaged 11.3 Disposals & 2.6 Marks.

With the departure of Zac Williams, the retirement of Heath Shaw & the injury to Lachie Whitfield the 2nd year Ash should be secure in his role in defence, his line breaking speed will be an asset with the Giants looking to move the ball more efficiently this season.

Davis provided the update via Sportsday on Thursday.

“I think we’re going to see some pretty amazing stuff from Lachie this year.”

“Lachie will get a lot of time in that high half-back role.”

AFL FANTASY TAKE

Ash averaged 44.0pts from 12 games last season, he scored a season high 62pts against Adelaide in Round 16.

The opportunity is certainly available this season to make an impression from a fantasy perspective, as yet we haven’t seen any type of points ceiling that has been noteworthy.

Ash scored 48pts from 85% game time on Sunday against Sydney in the AAMI Community Series.

With plenty of other options available around the same price tag Ash will largely go overlooked at Round 1 in AFL Fantasy classic, he’s a pass in 10 team standard draft leagues.

The scoring rate in the early rounds needs to be monitored for Ash, he’s in a premium scoring role across half-back.
