2022 Fantasy: Cam Rayner Role

Cam Rayner could be set for more time in the midfield this year, Lions captain Dayne Zorko noted the weight loss for Rayner coming off an ACL injury.

Zorko spoke with RSN this week, he provided an update on Rayner.

“He’s tracking along really well.”

“Obviously he’s slimmed down a lot, hopefully he doesn’t lose his power.”

“I don’t’ think he will, from what I’ve seen he hasn’t lost his power.”

“It’s probably something he needed to do to get into the midfield and spend a lot more time in there.”

“We obviously value his explosiveness and his strength.”

“That will be a huge part of hopefully our team success going forward” Zorko said.

Rayner averaged 9.8 Disposals, 3.0 Marks & 3.2 Tackles in 2020 (*16Min Qtrs).

Zorko was also confident Darcy Wilmot, Kai Lohmann & James Tunstill would make a splash at AFL level in 2022.

“I don’t think I’d be surprised if all three of them got their chance at AFL football this season” Zorko said.

Fantasy Impact: Cam Rayner should be fully prepared for the 2022 season coming off an ACL injury, he will slot into the best 22 at Brisbane.

There were suggestions this time last year he could increase his midfield usage prior to his injury, the latest comments from Zorko confirmed the potential increase in 2022.

The scoring output for Rayner hasn’t been noteworthy over his career, a move further up the ground would result in more opportunities to raise his points floor.

Rayner is an option for season long fantasy in Round 1 based on his low salary, he would be considered best 22 but an increase in expected scoring output is likely required to influence any decision to roster him early.

He’s probably upgraded from a pass to a late round speculative option in single season draft leagues.
