Essendon Update: Zach Merrett

There is further clarity on the role for Zach Merrett this season.

He’ll be used at times across half-back this year.

He spoke with Sportsday early this week and provided insight on what to expect in 2022.

“I think we want to keep evolving as a midfield group,”

AFL News on Twitter @aflratings“I’m sure at times that I’ll probably be down at half-back
throughout the year, week to week may change.”

“But I think with the players we have that run through the middle, we’ve got some guys that are really good in the forward half and other guys that are probably more suited to the back half.”

“So we’ll just try and compliment and grow that chemistry and be in sync together as we go forward.” he said.

Merrett also added Ben Hobbs is “developing really well” as well as “I’ve got no doubt he’ll get his opportunity at some point throughout the year”.

He also said Kaine Baldwin will “be around the mark” for Round 1, adding that Jake Stringer has “still got the midfield time in him” after an interrupted pre-season.
