Mackenzie is a well balanced midfielder that has excellent vision.
Hawthorn National List and Recruiting Manager Mark McKenzie provided a brief update after Mackenzie was selected.
“To be able to get Cam in who we rate highly and especially as a midfielder with that group at the club developing at this point in time we felt like there were a few midfielders there to choose from especially at that higher end but Cam was the one that stood out for us.” McKenzie said.
Mackenzie also averaged 24.3 disposals, 3.3 marks and 3.3 tackles from 4 games in the 2022 U18 National Championships.

Fantasy Impact: Cameron Mackenzie will add quality depth to the Hawthorn midfield.
He has a very good ability to read the play well and find the right position at stoppages, his distribution is also at a high level.
The short term fantasy prospects appear to be very good, he’ll likely see multiple opportunities at AFL level in 2023 with Hawthorn in a list transition. His fantasy scoring output be solid.

His long term prospects are likely quite good, he should solidify his place in the Hawthorn midfield over the long term and provide a very healthy fantasy scoring output.
Season long fantasy: Mackenzie is a consideration at Round 1 if he can lock up a place in the Hawks team, senior coach Sam Mitchell is eager to transition this list as quick as possible with youth and Mackenzie fits right into that situation.
Single season draft leagues: He’s likely a late round option in single season draft leagues.
DFS: He’ll be a target early with his expected midfield role especially at a low entry level salary.
