2023 AFL Fantasy: Five Players (Pre-season 5)

Clayton Oliver

Oliver will be a feature in the Melbourne midfield again this season which should include high centre bounce usage. Be aware that the message coming out of the pre-season from Melbourne is a want to increase the number of players and different looks to opposition teams in the midfield this season which is unlikely to impact Oliver too heavily.

Last season Oliver scored 100pts or more in 78.3% of games and 120ptrs or more in 34.8% of games. He averaged 32.7 disposals 3.6 marks and 5.5 tackles.

Oliver has completed a solid pre-season to this point with a minor thumb issue a couple of weeks go.

A fit solid premium looking for redemption for his team this season.

Nic Martin

Martin was outstanding in his first season at AFL level in 2022, he spent most of the year on the outside finishing with an average of 19.9 disposals, 5.9 marks and 1.7 tackles. A change in coach has seemingly shifted his role over pre-season with several opportunities to play inside midfield which has included centre bounces. There could possibly be upside scoring potential available with a sprinkling of inside midfield usage throughout the 2023 season.

A big watch over both practice matches.

Dylan Moore

Moore was outstanding last season with his work rate and ability to compete from contest to contest. He averaged 20.2 disposals, 5.6 marks and 4.2 tackles putting together an average of 93.3pts. He’s likely on the path to a similar type role this season which will include starting in the forward line then working back to D50 to be involved.

Hawthorn are progressing through a significant list build which could deliver a change in roles for several players throughout the season in 2023. Moore can easily put up decent fantasy numbers in his current role but a move into the midfield would certainly be noteworthy if it eventuates.

Expect another solid year.

Luke Davies-Uniacke

Davies-Uniacke likely claims the No.1 inside midfield position in 2023 at the Kangaroos, he will be a feature at most stoppages which will combine nicely with his ability to accumulate disposals outside the contest. If Alastair Clarkson implements a conservative and accurate approach to ball movement this season the mids including LDU could benefit from a fantasy perspective.

The role is clear here.

Will Day

Day has moved into the midfield this season which is likely going to include a decent amount of centre bounce usage. Previously used on the outside and across half-back the move into the middle of the ground will provide an opportunity to use his athletic skills to cover the ground ahead of slower opposition midfielders. There is the potential for a decent increase in fantasy output from Day this season.

A big watch over both pre-season games for scoring rate.
