Training Report: Melbourne

Melbourne Training Report:

Monday December 4, 2023

Rehab group: Bayley Fritsch, Jake Melksham, Kysaiah Pickett, Clayton Oliver.

Both Fritsch and Pickett look close to full fitness.

Oliver could be a while away from joining main training, limited session on Monday and still needs to build a fitness base before joining the main group.

Angus Brayshaw trained with the main group but did wear a fluro non-contact cap which is likely precautionary. He played through the middle of the ground during limited match simulation.

Christian Petracca looks quite fit performing well during the time trial. Jack Viney also looks to be at peak fitness and strength.

Max Gawn also trained with the main group and finished the time trial strong. He looks very fit at this stage of the pre-season and appears to have little competition at his position.

Matthew Jefferson continues his development as a forward, he was well behind several senior players in the time trial on Monday. Ben Brown was a strong performer and looks quite fit at this stage.

Jack Billings played across half-forward during limited match simulation, often used his delivery by foot to a leading forward.

Tom Sparrow was in a similar role and also completed stoppage/clearance skills training when players split into positional groups.

Marty Hore trained with the key defender group for an intercept marking drill, Josh Schache trained as a forward.

Shane McAdam looked quite lively and presented as a genuine target during limited match simulation.

Jacob van Rooyen played exclusively with the forward group during limited match simulation.

Koltyn Tholstrup has settled seamlessly into the group playing partially through the midfield and high half-forward during match simulation. His fitness and body size won’t be an issue as he could seriously push for early selection.

Judd McVee played a role in defence during limited match simulation and was part of ball transition out of defence at times.

Trent Rivers was used through the middle of the ground during limited match simulation.
