Tom Lynch underwent minor knee surgery on Thursday, the procedure is set to improve the range of motion in his knee & remove some scarring according to Richmond Media.

Tom Lynch joins Richmond

Lynch is expected to resume running in 2 weeks.

“There was no issue with Tom’s injury, however we were given an option to progress his rehab, which will allow him to start running slightly sooner than expected” Richmond General Manager of Football, Neil Balme.

Lynch has kicked 254 career Goals from 131 games (Ave: 1.9), he moved to the Tigers during the recent Free Agency period.

AFL FANTASY TAKE

The injury news is not that concerning at this stage for fantasy coaches, he is likely to return to training shortly therefore removing any fear on missing pre-season time.

Lynch is value based on his previous fantasy history, however selecting a key Forward in season long fantasy has not proved to be a successful strategy. With the change in rules next season Lynch could see a bump in his projected average as a result.

Fantasy Impact: 2019 Rule Changes

The solo Ruck situation at Richmond remains the same as 2018, Toby Nankervis will be Ruck 1 but instead of Shaun Grigg providing support it is expected Lynch will now be the Ruck 2 at the Tigers.

Based on his starting price of 2019, his new (better) team & his increased Ruck duties Lynch is a worthwhile watch over the pre-season, if he can return to complete a near full training schedule he might be worth considering.

Lynch could be a risk = reward selection, he is arguably priced 20pts short of what he could average at the Tigers in 2019.
