Lance Franklin underwent groin surgery on Tuesday, he injured his groin in the Elimination Final against GWS & didn’t fully recover during the off-season.
Franklin is expected to return to skills training in January according to the Swans.
“It was planned that rest would be the optimal form of recovery post-season for Lance, however it hasn’t healed at the rate we would have liked and surgery was determined as the best course of action” Sydney Head of Football, Charlie Gardiner.
Franklin kicked 57 Goals from 19 games (Ave Goals: 3.0) last season, he managed to play with a bruised heel for much of the year.
AFL FANTASY TAKE
The injury news for Franklin likely rules him out of consideration in season long fantasy for at least the beginning of the 2019 season, the return to skills training in January was an interesting comment by Swans Media as it wasn’t a full training return.
Sharp fantasy coaches are aware that a full pre-season is part of the solution to a successful year, Franklin would likely have been avoided anyway due to his key position role but not being able to complete a full pre-season likely rules him totally out.
Franklin will likely be a draft slider now.
