Essendon midfielder Dyson Heppell remains hopeful of a return in Round 2, he would need to undertake a heavy running load over the next few weeks to regain a decent fitness base in what is surely going to be a heavy game schedule for the remainder of the 2020 season.

Heppell has struggled with continuity over the 2020 pre-season unable to complete a sustained training period, the Bombers will likely be conservative in the fitness approach for Heppell taking a longer term view for this season & beyond.

“The foot is actually coming along quite well, we’ve still had access to one of our physios a couple of times a week which has been handy & put in a really good program to get my foot in cherry ripe nick.”

“It’s progressing quite well and hopefully start building into some running loads over the next couple of weeks, then it would be a good sort of 6-8 week build up & hopefully by then we’ll be back into some games & see if I can fire up for Round 2” Dyson Heppell on Friday via Bombers Media.

Heppell averaged 26.3 Disposals, 5.5 Marks & 2.9 Tackles from 18 games in 2019.

AFL FANTASY TAKE

When Heppell eventually returns it is safe to assume he will be at peak fitness, he may interrupt the CBA’s in some way.

If Heppell resumes in an outside wing type role then expect Dylan Shiel, Andrew McGrath, Jake Stringer & Zach Merrett to assume most of the midfield centre bounce work.

Heppell is a pass in season long fantasy.
