Carlton key forward Charlie Curnow has suffered a set back in his recovery from knee surgery, scans have revealed a hairline stress fracture however further surgery is not required.

The fresh knee concerns will delay the rehabilitation process for Curnow for a period of 4-6 weeks, he is now doubtful to play in the 2020 season.

“Ultimately his patella is showing us that there is still a weakness around one of the original screw holes. This stress response is an indication to us that his knee requires more time to heal.”

“It remains difficult to determine if Charlie will be ready to play this season, however, it does appear more unlikely than likely. We will continue to manage the situation to ensure the long-term interests of Charlie and his time in the game are protected, while also supporting him throughout this time as he continues his recovery.” Blues Head of Football Brad Lloyd.

Curnow averaged 12.3 Disposals, 4.5 Marks & 1.6 Goals from 11 games in 2019.

AFL FANTASY TAKE

With the Blues likely to be conservative with Curnow in 2020 expect Levi Casboult to continue as a key forward, Harry McKay is likely to be ready for Round 2 once the season recommences.

Casboult did spend significant time in the Ruck in Round 1 after Matthew Kreuzer injured his foot, Mark Pittnoet or even Tom De Koning may be used as an R1 if Kreuzer is unable to go in Round 2.

Curnow is a pass in season long fantasy.
