Dayne Zorko is set for a change in main roles this season, the long term Brisbane midfielder appears set to be moved forward in 2021.
The move of Zorko to more of a forward role will provide additional leadership in that area of the ground, it will also allow for other young midfield types to be given more of an opportunity this season.
Zorko spoke in depth on SEN this week about his new role & challenges for the upcoming season.
“Every player would have to analyse their game at the end of the year & find out what they can do better to help the team.”
“That’s certainly the phase that I’m really looking at my game at the moment, obviously as you get older you look at what’s best for the team & where you can see yourself playing.”
“Obviously for me I’m going to be spending a lot more time forward given the depth of the midfield we have & our younger players coming forward (in experience).”

Zorko was used at 41.5% of Brisbane total centre bounces in 2020, he is likely to come in well under that type of usage in 2021.
“Me along with Jed Adcock our forwards coach will be working at what areas I can do in the forward line, whether that be more of a leadership role down there given that I’ve spent a lot of time in the midfield but now coming down forward really trying to take ownership of that forward line along with Charlie Cameron & Eric Hipwood.”
“For me, even being the captain it’s important that you continuously work on your leading skills & being put in different situations & working through different areas.”Â
Zorko averaged 17.8 Disposals from 17 games in 2020.

AFL FANTASY TAKE
Zorko averaged 77.5pts from 17 games in 2020, he scored a season high 124pts in Round 16 against Gold Coast.Â
The midfield usage for Zorko did drop away last season, he had his injury issues dealing with a calf/Achilles issue which did not help.
Brisbane coach Chris Fagan ran an extended group in at centre bounces last season, expect that trend to continue this season but with an adjustment for others to see an increase with Zorko playing more forward.

Zorko does have the attributes to hit the scoreboard & remain fantasy relevant, but a half-forward-small forward type role could lead to some volatility in scoring.
In AFL Fantasy classic Zorko is now likely overpriced in relation to his likely scoring output & role at Round 1, he’s a major slide down on draft boards in 10 team standard draft leagues.
