Melbourne are looking at van Rooyen as a key forward initially, his ability to compete at a high level will also be an asset.
He was able to overcome glandular fever early in 2021, he played a mix of WAFL colts & league in his draft year.
“He’s a really competitive player, his contest in the air and at ground level is really strong.”
“He’s a really good character, he’s got really good leadership.”
“We’re looking at Jacob as a key forward, “
“He did play as a key defender at national level, he showed that he can play in both areas.” Melbourne National Recruiting Manager Jason Taylor.

Jacob van Rooyen averaged 14.1 Disposals, 5.2 Marks & 1.8 Tackles from 9 games in the WAFL Colts in 2021.
Fantasy Impact: Jacob van Rooyen appears to be a solid long term key position prospect for the Demons, initially he is set to develop as a key forward.
He reads the game well, is very composed & a good overhead mark, his development as a key forward early is likely to negate his fantasy scoring potential in the short term.
His long term fantasy prospects are linked to his role within the Melbourne team, as a key forward it could be a volatile scoring output week to week.
van Rooyen is likely a pass in season long fantasy at Round 1, there are likely better value options at a lower salary.
He’s a pass in single season draft leagues, he can be taken late in dynasty leagues.
