2022 Fantasy: Tim Taranto Role

GWS senior coach Leon Cameron has provided insight into the role for Tim Taranto this season.

He will be playing more as a forward.

Cameron openly discussed the role change on Sportsday this week.

AFL News on Twitter @aflratings “Tim Taranto is probably
more forward this year,”

“The back end of the year last year he was absolutely super filling some of those roles and he’s been fantastic there as well.”

“We’re probably experimenting a lot of our mids playing some forward roles as well.” he said.

Taranto averaged 26.5 Disposals, 4.9 Marks & 5.3 Tackles from 24 games in 2021.

Fantasy Impact: Tim Taranto averaged 106.7pts from 24 games in 2021, he recorded a season high 145pts in Round 14 against Carlton.

The more forward role for Taranto will likely have a negative impact in his scoring output from a fantasy perspective.

Still expect some midfield usage, but with the injury to Brent Daniels and Toby Greene missing early games due to suspension you can expect decent forward usage in the opening few games of the season for Taranto.

The Giants also have a very deep midfield, this includes Stephen Coniglio playing more as a mid in 2022.

Taranto is a consideration to avoid early in the year in season long fantasy, a drop in salary is possible – then based on how things progress for the Giants he may be a mid-season trade target.

He drops a few spots on draft boards in single season draft leagues.
