There is increased clarity on the Geelong game style for the 2022 AFL season.Â
Isaac Smith was specifically asked whether the Cats would follow the trend of most teams in efficient ball movement on SEN this week.Â

“If you look at just the trend of the AFL, the teams especially at the top of the ladder have certainly moved the ball a lot quicker especially from say stoppage.”
“You look at how Melbourne and Western Bulldogs especially around centre bounces and centre half forward stoppages they try and go out the front they’re able to put their forwards in really good positions,”
“I’ve probably come from a background with Clarko (Alastair Clarkson) and now Scotty (Chris Scott) where defence first is priority and they’re defence first coaches.”
“They believe that if you can probably hold the opposition to a certain score then you give yourselves a strong opportunity to win.”
“We’ll probably I guess in certain areas of the game maybe look to move the ball a bit quicker but I think and even from my personal view I’m very much an offensive player,”
“But if I was a head coach I’d probably still be defence first and make sure that we’ve got a sound defence behind the ball.” he said.Â
Smith also mentioned Max Holmes, Sam DeKoning, Cooper Stephens are part of “a nice blend of youth really pushing for spots”.
