“He developed so well this year (2021).”
“Just some changes he made to his game, just the way he ran, some of the decisions he made.”
“He would say he used to hunt the ball as his 1-wood, he was able to change that a little bit being able to hunt but also get the balance right of when to receive and he just kept turning up.”
“You don’t get 40 possessions without being a smart player in games.”
“So there’s some really good improvements from him, then the way he was able to lift in big games shows really good signs to where Darcy is at with his footy.” he said.
Mahoney provided an update on Ben Hobbs, “I think we’ll see him playing some senior footy as well (in 2022)”.
Essendon Update: Jake Stringer
He added the inclusion of Jake Kelly will assist Jordan Ridley as “he’s naturally a very good drop off defender, so important in today’s game to have someone like that”.
The midfield will also evolve this year according to Mahoney.
“We think our midfield area is going to run pretty deep”
