Adelaide Update: Wayne Milera

AFL News: Wayne Milera could soon make his way back into the Adelaide team.

This according to assistant coach Nathan van Berlo on Wednesday.

Milera returned to football in Round 1 this year having missed a significant period of time through injury, he was omitted after that one game and has since been building his game at SANFL level.

Nathan van Berlo provided an update on his progress of returning to the AFL team and what type of role he will play when he returns.

“We’re trying to find the best position that he helps us at AFL level and we are keen to get him in as soon as we possibly can, we feel that he’s ready to come in and play the role for us.”

“We’ve had discussions around potentially other roles as well (other than defensive),”

“Because we know he can play really anywhere and it’s about opportunities at AFL level and how we get him in there sooner rather than later.”

“And that doesn’t guarantee this week, doesn’t guarantee next week.”

“Sooner rather than later.”

“He gives us some polish around the ball, so the more that we can get the ball in guys like his hands, Jordan Dawson, on the outside they certainly do help add polish to our game.”

“That’s why we consider him an important part.” van Berlo said.

Jordan Dawson was tagged immediately after half time by Jarrod Berry last week, Dawson recorded 15 disposals in the first half and 9 in the second half against Brisbane.

UPDATE 23 MAY

Nathan van Berlo discussed Milera on SENSA again on Monday, it appears as though his name will be up for discussion and consideration for this week.

“He played half-forward for us on the weekend (SANFL) and got busy around the ball,”

“And definitely showed some really important signs.”

“In terms of our ability to finish and connect, he’s certainly going to help us in that regard.”

“Hopefully he pulls up well and we’ll have further chats this week,”

“But he’s definitely getting closer and hopefully it’s this week he gets an opportunity.” van Berlo said

Senior coach Matthew Nicks did provide an update on younger type players in his post game presser on Saturday night.

“We’re always mindful with first year players, getting through 22 games in a season is pretty tough for any first year (player).”

Josh Rachele was subbed out of the game on Saturday with a leg cork.

Nicks added “with him we’ll really assess this one (games played).”
