It is expected Gulden will move to more of an inside mid role for the 2026 season.

Sydney assistant coach Ben Mathews recently said (via SEN) that Gulden has enjoyed a mostly uninterrupted pre-season.

Gulden fractured his ankle on the eve of the 2025 season, he did not play until Round 15 after a lengthy rehabilitation period.

Mathews also confirmed that Gulden has trained most of the pre-season as an inside mid and that it would benefit the team with the ball in his hands more rather than being isolated on a wing at times.

Gulden will play as an inside mid with a secondary role as a high half-forward according to Mathews.

Isaac Heeney and Chad Warner along with Gulden will feature through the Sydney midfield this season.

James Rowbottom is also expected to see extended minutes in the middle of the ground while James Jordon has the ability to target opposition mids if required.

Tom Papley and Angus Sheldrick are also expected to be used at CBA’s with Papley rolling forward to become a target inside F50.

Gulden averaged 26.6 disposals, 5.3 marks and 4.3 tackles from 10 games in 2025.
