NEWS

News continued to flow for fantasy coaches today, the majority of important information coming out of the Giants via a Leon Cameron press conference.

Player Focus: Dan Hannebery

Shane Mumford will join the Giants via the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period from December 1

Mumford will be suspended for the opening 2 games of the 2019 H&A season, he averaged 83.5pts in AFL Fantasy & 98.3pts in SuperCoach in 2017.

The Ruck set-up at the Giants appears to be wide open at this stage, Leon Cameron wasn’t drawn into naming his preferred option today.

“It will be great to have Dawson (Simpson) & Shane (Mumford) & young Matty Flynn & young Kieren Briggs.. really working over that Ruck position & giving us some options throughout 2019” Leon Cameron.

Callum Brown (Ireland) was signed directly by the Giants via the International Player Rule, Leon Cameron made mention of his intended role today.

“We’ll actually train him up ahead of the footy, forward half.. we’re also mindful the skills of the game are going to take a little while. he’s got natural power & speed & goal sense” Leon Cameron.

Toby Greene (Ankle) is on an extended time frame to return to full training after undergoing surgery in early November, Leon Cameron provided an update today.

“He’ll prep himself after Christmas.. probably that sort of mid way- two thirds of the way through January.. it’s not ideal.. he didn’t want to go to surgery but in the end we did.. we’re confident we can get him right to go.. we’ll make sure we’ll take our time.. if he hasn’t had a good chunk of pre-season then we’ll learn from last year” Leon Cameron.

At this stage Greene could be a late start to the 2019 H&A season, he averaged 70.1pts in AFL Fantasy & 72.6pts in SuperCoach in 2018.

AFL FANTASY ANALYSIS

After an injury interrupted start to the 2018 H&A season Mitch Duncan put together another solid fantasy year, after scoring 110pts in Round 1 he missed the next 2 weeks with a Hamstring injury and returned in Round 4 and averaged 101.3pts from the following 9 games. Duncan continued his consistency for the remaining 10 games of the H&A season by averaging 101.5pts, he scored 82pts in an Elimination Final loss to Melbourne.

Duncan scored 100pts or more in 61.9% of games & 120pts or more from 9.5% of games in 2018, this was a moderate reduction compared to 2017.

In 2017 Duncan had a breakout season averaging 115.2pts (Incl. Finals), the addition of Gary Ablett & the emergence of Tim Kelly has likely had a negative impact on the fantasy production for Duncan.

The Cats have a pretty stacked Midfield again in 2019, finding the right option to select for a breakout season will be difficult for fantasy coaches.

AFL Fantasy Analysis: Patrick Dangerfield

Geelong averaged 382.7 Disposals in the 2018 H&A season (Rank 6), the Cats averaged 384.4 Disposals in the 2017 H&A season (Rank 10).

Considering the options available in the Geelong Midfield it would appear Duncan is appropriately priced to begin the 2019 H&A season, if there are any long term injuries to premium options then that could result in a bump in production next season for Duncan but for now he is likely a pass based on value.

Duncan will likely be on the light side for ownership to begin 2019, he is worth considering but definitely not as a priority.
