Essendon new recruit Mitch Hibberd was carried from the ground during training last week with a knee injury, after further assessment he underwent surgery on his meniscus.
Hibberd is now expected to be sidelined from pre-season training for 6 weeks, this likely removes any possibility of a Round 1 debut for the Bombers.
“He is in great spirits post-surgery and we expect him to progress his rehabilitation over the next six weeks before reintegrating into full training.” Essendon GM of Football, Dan Richardson.
Hibberd averaged 24.3 Disposals & 6.9 Tackles in the VFL in 2019, he played 4 games for Nth Melbourne averaging 11.8 Disposals, 2.5 Marks & 2.0 Tackles in 2017.

Hibberd is a genuine target for AFL Fantasy classic coming in at a salary under $200K, he now looms as a likely downgrade target at some stage during the season.
Hibberd was given a second chance at AFL level after being selected in the Rookie Draft by the Bombers, there is the potential he could be utilised in a midfield rotation throughout the season.
