Gold Coast defender Charlie Ballard will be sidelined for an extended period of time after injuring his shoulder, as a result he underwent reconstructive surgery last week.

Ballard is expected to miss the opening 6 weeks of the season according Suns Media.

“Unfortunately for him (Charlie), after a collision at training he required surgery on his shoulder and we’re expecting him to miss at least the first part of the season.” GM of Football Operations Jon Haines.

Ballard averaged 13.0 Disposals, 5.3 Marks & 1.1 Tackles from 21 games in 2019, he has played in 32 games since making his debut in Round 7 in 2018.

The opportunities will open up for the defensive group at Gold Coast early in 2020, Ballard had solidified his position in the team after a promising start to his career.
