Fremantle defender Joel Hamling injured his ankle at training on Monday, after undergoing scans it was revealed he sustained significant strain to his ligaments.
Hamling will not be available for Round 1 according to Fremantle Media today.
“Joel landed heavily on his left ankle after contesting a mark at training on Monday and was sent for scans, which confirmed the nature of the injury,”
“He will be further assessed by a specialist, after which we will have a more accurate estimate of the recovery time Joel’s injury will require.” Fremantle GM of Football, Peter Bell.
Hamling averaged 10.6 Disposals, 5.0 Marks, 1.1 Tackles from 22 games in 2019, he has played in 93.9% of games since the beginning of the 2017 H&A season.

AFL FANTASY TAKE
Although Hamling does play deep defence for Fremantle the prospects for Hayden Young making a Round 1 debut have further increased, Jesse Hogan is already on extended personal leave which instantly puts the Dockers on the back foot from an injury point of view to begin the season.
Hamling is a pass in both classic & draft.
