Sydney have confirmed key forward Sam Reid will be sidelined for a further 4-5 weeks, he injured his calf at training last Monday.

Reid had resumed training & was on track to resume at the time of the AFL season re-start, the latest setback will see him miss an extended period of time.

“Sam suffered an injury last Monday in training, it was his third skills session back.”

“He’d been travelling quite well, so it was a big setback”

“He’ll probably miss another 4-5 weeks & he probably won’t be available to play until Round 5 thereabouts, we don’t know exactly (at this stage)” Swans Head of Football Charlie Gardiner.

Reid averaged 11.5 Disposals, 5.0 Marks & 1.3 Goals from 22 games in 2019.

AFL FANTASY TAKE

The Swans opted to play a small forward line in Round 1 against Adelaide, Reid won’t be available in the short term with Lance Franklin even further away from a return.

Isaac Heeney played predominately as a small marking forward in Round 1, expect that role to continue.

“I think no doubt he’ll probably spend a bit more time forward” Josh Kennedy on Isaac Heeney – Tuesday June 2.

Reid is not considered an option in season long fantasy.
