Essendon rookie Tom Hird will be sidelined for an extended period with a foot injury, the diagnosis is a navicular stress fracture.

The Bombers will be very cautious with the rehabilitation for Hird, he is not expected to return to training for a significant part of 2020.

“Tom will rest his foot for the next period and we will continue to monitor his progress but it will be a longer-term injury”

“It’s a disappointing setback for Tom after his start with the club in recent months, and with the nature of navicular injuries, we will continue to take full caution approaching Tom’s rehabilitation over the coming weeks.” Bombers GM of Football Dan Richardson.

Hird joined the Bombers as a Category B Rookie earlier this year, he is yet to debut for the Bombers.

AFL FANTASY TAKE

Hird will take some time to develop after he recovers from his current foot injury, it would be a long shot if he played at AFL level in 2021.

Hird is not considered an option in season long fantasy.
