Saints Head of List Management James Gallagher provided an update on Windhager post-draft.

“Marcus is a dynamic and powerful mid-forward, who is also very strong in the air.”

“He has overcome some injury setbacks in recent years, but his resilience, determination and talent have shone when he has had the opportunity to play.” Gallagher said.

Windhager sustained a back injury prior to being selected in the 2021 AFL Draft.

2022 AFL Fantasy: Alastair Lord

Windhager averaged 15.8 Disposals, 2.8 Marks & 2.8 Tackles from 4 games in the NAB League in 2021.

Fantasy Impact: Marcus Windhager will add depth to the St Kilda forward/midfield group, he is already  developed physically which should see him adapt to AFL level early in his career.

He works well through traffic & is sharp at ground level, he can also hit the scoreboard.

The short term fantasy prospects could be limited for Windhager, the Saints are likely to be patient with a first year draftee with back issues.

The longer term prospects could be decent with his primary role likely to impact his scoring output, a move into the midfield is a possible option.

Windhager is a pass in season long fantasy at Round 1, it is worth tracking his progress throughout 2022.

He’s a pass in single season draft leagues, he’s an option late in dynasty leagues with the potential upside coming from a move into the midfield once he fully develops.
