Western Bulldogs National Recruiting Manager Dom Milesi provided an update on Cleary post-draft.
“Once again, you love seeing guys who’ve missed out keep going – Luke was one that wasn’t drafted last year as an 18-year-old, but he came back and had a really consistent year with Sandringham, and then in the Vic Metro trials across half-back.”
“He’s a very steady player, his decision-making is really good, and he’s an outstanding character. You couldn’t ignore his form and consistency, so he was one we were really pleased to be able to get late in the draft.” Milesi said.

2022 AFL Fantasy: Jackson Archer
Cleary averaged 20.1 Disposals, 4.7 Marks & 2.0 Tackles from 7 games in the NAB League in 2021.
Fantasy Impact: Luke Cleary will add depth to the Bulldogs half-back line, he reads the play well & can hit targets by foot at a high rate.
He’s highly competitive & has an ability to apply pressure on opponents, he also has strong marking qualities.
The short term fantasy prospects for Cleary could be moderate, Bulldogs senior coach Luke Beveridge has previously shown patience with young draftees but Cleary will turn 20 in 2022, his game could adapt to AFL level quickly.
The longer term prospects could be decent, a role across half-back would provide a solid scoring output.
Cleary would be a consideration in season long fantasy if he breaks through for a debut in 2022, keep track of his progress over the pre-season for specific role & scoring output potential.
He’s likely a pass in single season draft leagues, he’s an option just beyond the early rounds in dynasty leagues. A role across half-back would be preferred for optimal scoring.
