Port Adelaide Update: Jackson Mead

Jackson Mead is “close” to the Port Adelaide best 22 at the moment.

This according to assistant coach Nathan Bassett on 5AA this week.

Mead was used through the midfield in the stronger team in Friday’s intra club match which included centre bounces.

Bassett gave the strongest indication he’s close to selection for Round 1.

“Meady has had an outstanding pre-season right from the start,”

“He’s had a toughish 2 years, it’s never easy coming in as a father/son (recruit).”

“He’s been terrific, he’s pretty close to our best 22 at the moment.” He said.

Bassett added Sam Hayes was a “bit sore in his Achilles last week” and also Josh Sinn is a “good chance to go to Queensland next week.”

He also confirmed the change in midfield rotations that was put on the agenda by midfield coach Brett Montgomery last month

“We’ve probably added a couple of numbers there (midfield) and it’s more the quantity of centre bounces and stoppages that they go to that’s changing,”

“Means someone else has to come forward and that’s going to be the balance that we’re working through on who goes forward and when and also for the players adapting to spending a little bit more time forward than what they have in the past.” Bassett said.
