Charlie Dean is in the “frame” for an early season debut.

This was according to Collingwood Head of Strategy Justin Leppitsch this week.

“Charlie’s in the frame absolutely,”

“His form, not just pre-season training but then when we’ve had moments of match simulation have been good.”

“No pressure on the kid, like he’s in the growth part of his career.”

“He might play one or two good quarters now and one where he struggles, who knows.”

“He’s in that growth stage, so we can’t put too much pressure on him but his upward trend has been very good.” he said.

Dean would be in consideration for a spot in the team early in the year to cover for the Jordan Roughead injury

Injury Update: Jeremy Howe

Leppitsch also provided an update on Jordan DeGoey saying his rib issue is “not bad obviously” and “touch and go from what I understand, probably not” for next week.

DeGoey is expected to be available for Round 1.

AFL FANTASY NEWS

Fantasy Impact: Charlie Dean could be close to a Round 1 AFL debut, he averaged 15.1 Disposals & 7.3 Marks from 9 games in the VFL last year.

The Magpies haven’t yet settled on a plan to cover for the Jordan Roughead injury but Darcy Moore did say Dean is “looking like a pretty good replacement” this week , the final 2 practice games would be a strong indicator on how they plan to line-up early in the year. Keep in mind Jeremy Howe could be held out of those games due to his injury concerns.

Dean would be a consideration for season long fantasy at Round 1, the scoring could be volatile but he should exceed value at his basement salary. His position in the team could also not be that secure.

He’s a pass in single season draft leagues.
