Essendon Update: Jordan Ridley

Jordan Ridley has provided an update on his role for the 2022 AFL season.

Speaking on SEN this week he was specifically asked whether his required role last season to lock down on opponents would be helpful for the remainder of his career.

“I really pride myself on probably having a balance on my game being able to defend when I have to but also hopefully get on the end of a bit of ball,”

AFL News on Twitter @aflratings “Hopefully this year just working
on sort of that versatility and being able to do both.”

“I definitely had a few roles last year which I really enjoyed doing, its’ probably something I hadn’t really done in my career to date,”

Injury Update: Jake Stringer

“I thought it was just another string to my bow.”

“I definitely think that will hold me in good stead in having done that for the rest of my career.” Ridley said.

Fantasy Impact: Jordan Ridley averaged 79.9pts from 22 games in the 2021 season, he averaged 108.3pts from his opening 4 games of the season.

Essendon had their injury concerns in defence last year, this required Ridley to move more directly onto opponents which delivered volatile scoring.

The recruitment of Jake Kelly in the off-season allows Ridley to play off his opponents this season, this should provide a more consistent scoring output if the opposition allow that Essendon defensive structure to be maintained within games.

Ridley is a consideration for season long fantasy at Round 1, there is arguably value in his starting salary.

It’s worth being ahead of expected ADP in single season draft leagues.
