Jefferson is an athletic tall forward that is strong in marking contests.

Melbourne National Recruiting Manager Jason Taylor provided a brief update after Jefferson was selected.

“We’re thrilled to bring Matthew in the door,”

“He’s a natural scorer, he’s a good overhead mark, he can also get up the ground and get it on the lead so he’s got multiple ways he can hit the scoreboard.” Taylor said.

Jefferson also averaged 8.8 disposals, 3.0 marks, 1.0 tackle and kicked 14 goals from 4 games in the 2022 U18 National Championships.

Fantasy Impact: Matthew Jefferson will add quality depth as a key forward at Melbourne.

He has very strong hands in marking contests and can present as a leading target further up the ground.

The short term fantasy prospects are likely moderate at best, he is quite light in body size and could take a couple of pre-seasons to adapt to AFL level.

His long term prospects are also likely moderate, he is likely to have an inconsistent fantasy scoring output as a key forward.

Season long fantasy: Jefferson is no guarantee to debut in 2023, if he can make his way into the team his scoring output is likely to be medium to low scoring at times.

Single season draft leagues: He’s a pass in single season draft leagues.

DFS: He may be one to avoid unless in favourable opponent situations combined with a low entry level salary.
