Michalanney is a highly competitive and composed defender that has an ability to read the play well.

Adelaide National Recruiting Manager Hamish Ogilvie provided a brief update after Michalanney was selected.

“He’s an all-round defender who can play on different types of opponents which will add great flexibility to our squad.”

“He’s also a very good athlete with strong agility, at a touch over 190cm to be able to play effectively on smaller opponents is testament to that.” Ogilvie said.

Michalanney also averaged 12.5 disposals, 1.3 marks and 4.3 tackles from 4 games in the 2022 U18 National Championships.

Fantasy Impact: Max Michalanney will add quality depth to the Adelaide defensive unit.

He reads the play well and has a strong ability to intercept mark, he is well balanced and can hit targets by foot at a high rate. He can also move into a defensive role not allowing space for his opponents.

The short term fantasy prospects could be moderate, his position and role may not provide a consistent fantasy scoring output early in his career.

His long term prospects could be anywhere from moderate to quite good, if he develops into an intercepting defender type player his fantasy scoring output could be quite strong otherwise a defensive shut down type role could provide low and inconsistent scores. It is possible long term his role could shift throughout a season.

Season long fantasy: The role for Michalanney would need to be clear as an intercept defender type role in order for consideration, if not he’s likely a pass based on an expected low scoring output.

Single season draft leagues: He’s likely a pass in single season draft leagues.

DFS: He could be a consideration early if he is playing as an intercept type defender especially at a low entry level salary.
