2023 AFL Fantasy: Five Players (Round 19)

Five Players is a weekly article to help you make informed decisions for season long AFL Fantasy.

Max Gawn

The change was made from Melbourne senior coach Simon Goodwin to explore the forward structure without Brodie Grundy last week which meant Max Gawn was running solo ruck. The output for Gawn was amazing as he posted 162pts. It appears Grundy could be stuck at VFL level for a period of time that provides enough opportunities for Gawn to run solo. With no current timeline available for a Grundy return expect Gawn to dominate at the ruck position which includes taking a strong number of intercept marks.

One to consider.

Luke Davies-Uniacke

Davies-Uniacke has been impacted by multiple injuries this season but currently appears to be quite healthy. His inside midfield usage will be strong which should provide plenty of fantasy scoring opportunities to finish the season. It may be possible LDU is targeted in games where the Kangaroos are competitive and not when the game result is known. Davies-Uniacke has an excellent high-ceiling game.

Josh Kelly

With Tom Green sidelined last week the move was made from GWS senior coach Adam Kingsley to increase the inside midfield usage for Josh Kelly. Green is currently expected to miss a further two weeks which should provide a small window for Kelly to produce solid fantasy numbers. Beyond that Kelly could return to an outside midfield role.

One to consider.

Sam Flanders

New opportunities can absolutely be available with a coach change and that is what we witnessed last week for Sam Flanders. An instant spike in centre bounce usage plus freedom to move through the middle of the ground. The scoring rate for Flanders was outstanding on Saturday and could be at a decent level to finish the season.  He represents excellent value at his current salary.

One to consider.

Luke Jackson

With Sean Darcy now sidelined for an extended period of time Jackson has an excellent opportunity to produce strong fantasy numbers. Jackson was recently hampered by a hip concern which is noteworthy but he will be placed into a prime fantasy scoring role at the ruck position. Jackson represent excellent value at his current salary.
