AFL Fantasy Game Notes: Round 16

Not many would have escaped Round 16 unscathed, the Max Gawn late withdrawal came to fruition after failing to train all week but it was the late withdrawal of Travis Boak minutes before the opening bounce that was the final straw in what was a low scoring week.

But wait.. there was more, in-game injuries were a major factor to popular premiums this week.

As the dust settles on a brutal Round 16, the finish line is fast approaching with 7 weeks remaining in the H&A season.

Each week of the H&A season there will be a few key notes from each game that may provide some benefit to your AFL Fantasy decisions.

Hawthorn v Collingwood (MCG)

Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson again made in-game moves against the Magpies in Round 16, popular fantasy target was spared remaining in his defensive position & finished with a strong 121pts.

Isaac Quaynor was solid on debut recording 18 Disposals & 7 Marks for 78pts, he was used multiple times in defensive switches by the Magpies.

Essendon v Sydney (MCG)

Zach Merrett was assessed for concussion early in the 2nd Qtr, fortunately he was able to return but did struggle to just 57pts.

Aliir Aliir spent the majority of the day in the Ruck for the Swans, he recorded 17 Disposals & 22 Hit Outs for a solid 71pts.

Gold Coast v Richmond (MS)

It was a long day for the Suns, the Jarrod Witts (106pts) match-up against Ivan Soldo (84pts) was quite even.

Dustin Martin was restricted to just 58pts after being shadowed by Brad Scheer (28pts) for most of the day.

Adelaide v Port Adelaide (AO)

Reilly O’Brien (107pts) was a standout for the Crows in what was a dismal day, he was the only Adelaide player to score over 100pts.

The Travis Boak late withdrawal exposed many this week running with poor bench cover, Tom Rockliff was outstanding recording 36 Disposals for 150pts in his return.

Western Bulldogs v Geelong (MRVL)

A last qtr surge was good enough for the Bulldogs to knock over Geelong, Marcus Bontempelli & Lachie Hunter top scored for the Bulldogs with 124pts.

Gary Ablett (52pts) was quiet recording just 11 Disposals in his half-forward type role, Jordan Clark was solid again finishing with 89pts.

Fremantle v West Coast (OS)

Fremantle were crushed around the ball in wet conditions, Michael Walters (98pts) was the leading scorer for the Dockers.

Nic Naitanui was again on limited game time, he finished with 60pts from 60% Time on Ground.

Carlton v Melbourne (MCG)

It was a slow start for Sam Walsh but he powered home finishing with 98pts, Nic Newman turned the ball over early but finished with an equal team high 111pts.

Tom McDonald didn’t play the last Qtr due to a knee injury but still recorded a team high 127pts, Bayley Fritsch (121pts) was solid across half-back recording 26 Disposals & 12 Marks.

Nth Melbourne v St Kilda (BA)

Todd Goldstein recorded a game high 39 Hit Outs for 117pts, despite a slow last Qtr spending a fair bit of time forward Jack Ziebell finished with a strong 111pts.

Jack Billings was consistent throughout the entire game recording 35 Disposals for 128pts, Jack Steele recorded 18 Tackles for 132pts.

GWS Giants v Brisbane (GS)

Josh Kelly (89pts) injured his calf early in the final Qtr & did not return, Stephen Coniglio had his knee strapped at HT but finished with a very healthy 146pts.

Lachie Neale (134pts) recorded a team high 31 Disposals, despite early attention from Sam Reid (48pts) Dayne Zorko was let go mid-way through the 2nd Qtr & finished strong with 121pts.
