West Coast have successfully traded for Tim Kelly one year after an agreement couldn’t be reached on a deal, he joins the Eagles on a 6 year contract.
Kelly averaged 25.4 Disposals, 3.6 Marks, 4.2 Tackles & 1.0 Goal for the Cats in 2019, he has played in all 48 games for Geelong since being selected at Pick 24 in the 2017 AFL Draft.
“We’re been working on this for a long time. We didn’t start on Monday, we started weeks ago. It’s no surprise to us that it’s happened early” Manager Anthony Van Der Wielen (Empire Sports Management) via @traderadio.
“Once Tim decided that he was going to go back to Western Australia and he nominated the West Coast Eagles, we had to work in good faith with them to try and do the best deal we could for the Geelong football club.” Geelong List Manager, Stephen Wells via AFL.com.au.

AFL FANTASY TAKE
Kelly will likely play a similar role in the midfield at West Coast in 2020, he will impact the current midfield mix at the Eagles which could see Dom Sheed pushed out to a wing role replacing Chris Masten.
Kelly averaged 99.0pts from 25 games in 2019, he has averaged 93.0pts over his 2 years at Geelong with a career high score of 150pts in the 2019 Preliminary Final.
Kelly will likely be appropriately priced to begin the 2020 season in classic, the Eagles averaged 352.9 Disposals in the 2019 H&A season (Rank 16) so the upside may be somewhat limited for Kelly.
Kelly won’t be a top selection in draft, but certainly will be a target in the early rounds.
