Summary:Â Essendon were able to hold off West Coast in the last Qtr to win by 8pts at Mineral Resources Park, wet conditions impacted most of the game with play being suspended in the 2nd Qtr due to lightning.
Jordan Ridley was solid in defence for the Bombers and scored at a solid rate, he recorded 21 Disposals & 7 Marks for 97pts while taking 33.3% of kick-ins.
Will Snelling scored a team high 113pts, he played as a small forward applying plenty of pressure with 7 Tackles & 2 Goals.
Devon Smith (84pts) played mostly around centre half forward in the opening half which attributed to his low scoring output, in the second half he was mostly through the midfield which elevated his scoring rate.
Smith attended 1 centre bounce attendance in the first half, his second came with 6:58 remaining in the 3rd Qtr (CBA: 29.0%).
Andrew McGrath played the majority of the game in the midfield, he worked his way through traffic well recording 24 Disposals but scored only at 0.94 PPM.
Irving Mosquito came on in the second half, he was quite busy with his limited opportunities but certainly had an impact.
Andrew Phillips spent the majority of the game at the Ruck position, he was decent early but his scoring rate slowed down in the second half.
Jacob Townsend played mostly forward in the first half which impacted his scoring output, he did increase his midfield usage in the second half. Townsend did leave the ground late in the final Qtr after appearing to hurt his knee.
Michael Hurley (48pts) did not play beyond 3QT, he was icing his calf at 3QT.

Luke Shuey played through the midfield the entire game, he scored 67pts in the first half and finished with a team high 110pts.
Tim Kelly spent the majority of the first half starting as a forward which impacted his scoring, in the second half he was used heavily though the midfield to finish with 91pts. Kelly started in the middle at 36.4% of his game CBA’s in the first half.
Nic Naitanui was especially sharp early but as expected played limited minutes, he scored 64pts at a rate of 1.25 PPM.
Bailey Williams was used in the Ruck at times, he impacted the game well recording 12 Disposals & 5 Hit Outs for 59pts.
Jarrod Brander played out on a wing at times in the first half, conditions didn’t really suit his game as he finished with 45pts at a scoring rate of 0.62 PPM.
Josh Kennedy excelled in wet conditions, he finished with 6 Goals scoring 93pts.
