Sydney midfielder Josh Kennedy will be sidelined for an extended period, he injured his knee in the opening minutes of Round 6 against Richmond.

Kennedy immediately signalled to the interchange that he was coming off the ground after his knee twisted in a tackle, he iced his knee and did not return.

The injury has been described as a ruptured medial ligament in his knee.

Kennedy is expected to miss at least 6 weeks.

Kennedy averaged 22.0 Disposals, 3.0 Marks & 6.0 Tackles between Rounds 1-5.

The injury to Kennedy will open up opportunities in the Swans midfield for the immediate future, Oliver Florent & James Rowbottom have seen an increase at CBA’s this season and will likely take on more responsibility without Kennedy.

Kennedy was a unique option in the midfield for season long fantasy, he is now a trade out.
