GWS Giants midfielder Callan Ward will be sidelined for an extended period, he injured his right knee against Port Adelaide on Sunday.
The knee injury for Ward is the opposite to the one he had a reconstruction on last season, he is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.
Ward will not require surgery, the injury has been described as lateral collateral ligament damage.

“He kicked around his body and had that kick smothered.”
“He did some damage to his lateral collateral ligament in his right knee, so that’s not the one he had reconstructed last year which we’re thankful about.”

Ward averaged 17.8 Disposals, 2.3 Marks & 2.3 Tackles in his opening 4 games of 2020.

The injury to Ward creates an opportunity in the Giants midfield, Tim Taranto is expected to return soon which would be a like for like replacement.
Stephen Coniglio could see an increase of his CBA’s from last week, he was used at a rate of 58.8% in Round 6.
Ward is now a trade out in season long fantasy.
