Aleer is an elite intercept marking player, his ability to disrupt opposition inside forward 50 entries will be an extremely valuable asset for the Giants.
The 20 year old could make a splash at AFL level in 2022, he certainly appreciates the opportunity in a recent interview on SENSA.
“I’m obviously coming in as a defender & my job is to essentially be the best defender I can possibly be, and also be the best team mate I can possibly be.” Aleer said.
The Giants see Aleer as an integral part of their defence in the future according to GWS National Recruiting Manager Adrian Caruso.
“Leek is going to provide something unique to our backline with his rare athletic package,”
“Finding a young key back who we can develop was something we prioritised, and Leek’s resilience and character give us confidence that he will give himself the best chance possible to nail a spot alongside Sam Taylor down the track.” Caruso said.

Aleer averaged 8.9 Disposals, 4.4 Marks & 2.5 Tackles from 11 games in the SANFL in 2021.
Fantasy Impact: Leek Aleer has an amazing leap that will be a feature of his game, he should develop into an intercept marking key defender type.
The short term fantasy prospects for Aleer may be limited by opportunity, the Giants do see him as a long term option to play in defence so his speed of development will be linked to his AFL opportunities in 2022.
His long term fantasy prospects should be okay, in time he will likely be locked into a role in defence but scoring output could be volatile based on his actual role in the team.
There are likely better value options in season long fantasy at Round 1 if Aleer is named, he should still exceed value based on his starting salary.
He’s a pass in single season draft leagues, he’s a speculative pick beyond the early rounds in dynasty leagues.
