With the 2022 AFL H&A season set to begin on March 16, @aflratingsPete provides a fantasy outlook for Port Adelaide.
Coach/Game Style
Port Adelaide fell well short in the preliminary final against the Bulldogs last year, since that loss senior assistant and midfield coach Michael Voss has departed and assistant Brett Montgomery has taken over the middle of the ground.
Montgomery has already flagged changes through the midfield this season, rather than rely on a select few to control the midfield battle Montgomery has stated he wants more spread which could dilute the centre bounces numbers from last year.Â
The spread of midfield rotations will not only assist with wear and tear across the season but assists in having a fresh midfield ready for finals if all goes to plan, that will create opportunities from a fantasy perspective.Â
Port Adelaide averaged 383.2 disposals in the 2021 H&A season (Rank 2).Â
Ollie Wines (32.4) and Travis Boak (27.8) averaged 25 or more disposals in 2021.

Ollie Wines ($938K MID) was a standout last season from a fantasy perspective, he averaged 112.0pts from 24 games recording a season high 154pts against Gold Coast in Round 14.
He scored 120pts or more in 66.7% of games, he scored 120pts or more in 37.5% of games.Â
Wines will likely be the main ball winner at Port Adelaide again in 2022, his centre bounce usage is unlikely to change dramatically despite the potential for more players to be used through the middle of the ground. Â
Ownership could be thin to start the season.Â
Value
Zak Butters ($639K FWD) will see an increase in midfield usage this season, his high contested type game should provide additional opportunities to elevate his scoring output this season.Â
He averaged 74.8pts from an injury interrupted season in 2021, he played just 12 games.
There is genuine upside scoring potential for Butters based on his starting salary, expect strong ownership at Round 1. Â
Ruck
Scott Lycett ($718K RUCK) remains the starting ruck option for Port Adelaide in the 2022 season, his experience provides stability at the position.Â
There are likely better options available.
Sam Hayes ($190K RUCK) is on the radar to make his AFL debut early in the year, his basement salary represents good value even in a dual ruck setup or being mostly used as a forward providing minimal relief for Lycett.Â

Don’t Forget About
Lachie Jones ($368K DEF) is set to capture a role across half-back this season, an injury interrupted season impacted his scoring output in 2021.
With another pre-season under his belt Jones will be better equipped to play at AFL level, his scoring output should be solid out of defence.Â
Ownership could be moderate to begin the 2022 season, his salary represent value.Â
