Disappointing news out of the Giants today with Midfielder Josh Kelly sidelined for at least 3 weeks, he injured his calf early in the last Qtr on Sunday & did not return.

Midfielder Stephen Coniglio (Knee) has escaped serious injury for the Giants, he did play out the game recording 34 Disposals.

“He’ll have to train & we’ll test him & all that sort of stuff but the good news is there’s no major damage & at this stage we probably expect him to play this weekend.” GM of Football Wayne Campbell.

Lachie Whitfield (collarbone) is set to return this week after being held out of Round 16 due to soreness, with the injury to Kelly the midfield usage for Whitfield could be high in the short term.

“At this stage he’ll certainly play this week.” GM of Football, Wayne Campbell.

Melbourne Ruck Max Gawn appears set to return in Round 17, he narrowly missed last week due to an ankle injury.

“He will be a test later in the week but the signs at this stage are very positive.” Elite Performance Manager, David Misson.

AFL Fantasy Game Notes: Round 16

Luke Hodge looks set to miss Round 17 for Brisbane, he took a heavy hit to the ribs on Sunday and appears unlikely to travel to Adelaide this week to play the Power.

Key Forward Eric Hipwood is questionable after a knee injury in the same game for the Lions, CEO Greg Swann described his chances as “more unlikely than likely” today via @1116sen.

Collingwood defender Jeremy Howe looks set to miss another week with a calf injury, Isaac Quaynor will likely retain his position after a strong showing in his AFL debut.

Bryce Gibbs & Sam Jacobs will continue to play in the SANFL according to Adelaide coach Don Pyke today, Forward Tom Lynch will miss additional time with his calf injury.

“He had the calf strain that settled really quickly but then as they started reloading that up, the tendon has caused more issues.” Don Pyke.

Key Defender Daniel Talia is questionable for Round 17 with an ankle injury.

Patrick Cripps looks set to return this week after missing the last 2 games for Carlton due to a foot injury.

Essendon Midfielder Dyson Heppell remains questionable with a foot injury, he has been managing the foot in recent weeks but was a late withdrawal in Round 16.

The news for Michael Hurley is a little more positive, he is dealing with a hip injury.

West Coast Defender Liam Duggan will miss the next 5-6 weeks with an ankle injury, key Forward Josh Kennedy is on track to return after missing last week due to illness.

St Kilda defender Josh Battle will be sidelined for at least 2-3 weeks with a knee injury, Dan Hannebery will be assessed this week after missing Round 16 with soreness.

“A decision on his availability will be made after training on Thursday” Senior Physiotherapist, Andrew Wallis on Dan Hannebery today.
