AFL Fantasy Game Notes: Round 17

High scores were quite common in Round 17 underlined by the 189pts from Josh Dunkley, the weekend was soured with the serious knee injury to favourite Stephen Coniglio.

As the weeks continue to shrink those chasing league titles need to narrow the focus on potential opponents throughout the AFL Fantasy Finals, unique players will be the difference between success & failure.

Take some time this week to identify areas of weakness within your team to improve, maintaining a solid bench could also be crucial in the final 4 weeks of the season in league match-ups.

West Coast v Collingwood (OS)

It was a tough night for Shannon Hurn (77pts) as he was shadowed by Chris Mayne, Nic Naitanui played 57% Time on Ground in Round 17 for 82pts.

It was an extremely slow start for Jack Crisp in the first Qtr on Friday night after starting in the midfield, he finished with a solid 110pts.

Sydney v Carlton (SCG)

Jake Lloyd (117pts) was the only Sydney play to score more than 100pts in Round 17, he recorded a game high 34 Disposals.

Nic Newman (129pts) accumulated disposals with ease out of the backline, despite the return of Patrick Cripps (94pts) the midfield usage for Ed Curnow (111pts) was solid.

Hawthorn v Fremantle (UTAS Stadium)

Despite a slow 2nd Qtr Ricky Henderson found plenty of ball & space in Launceston, he recorded 25 Disposals & 11 Marks for 123pts.

Nat Fyfe (128pts) was assessed during the game for a shoulder injury, he returned strongly moving forward at times to shake a Daniel Howe tag.

Essendon v Nth Melbourne (MRVL)

Dylan Clarke (81pts) played a significant role for the Bombers running mostly with Ben Cunnington (47pts), Zac Clarke (86pts) was very solid recording 12 Disposals & 35 Hit Outs.

It was a slow day for Jack Ziebell recording 20 Disposals & 0 Marks, he finished on 65pts despite a decent amount of midfield usage.

Gold Coast v Adelaide (MS)

Darcy MacPherson recorded a team high 9 Tackles, he finished with a solid 108pts.

A total of 14 players scored 90pts or more against Gold Coast, Brad Crouch scored a game high 128pts.

Geelong v St Kilda (GMHBA Stadium)

Mitch Duncan (122pts) was an outlet player for defenders to target at times in Round 17, he recorded a team high 33 Disposals.

Hunter Clark (119pts) has started to accumulate disposals with ease in recent weeks in defence, he recorded 25 Disposals & 7 Marks in Round 17.

Richmond v GWS Giants (MCG)

Dustin Martin worked hard for his 83pts in wet conditions at the MCG, Bachar Houli was strong in defence this week finishing with 113pts.

Stephen Coniglio suffered a serious knee injury early in the first Qtr and will miss an extended period, Toby Greene was used in the midfield at times recording 34 Disposals for 144pts.

Western Bulldogs v Melbourne (MRVL)

Josh Dunkley was amazing in Round 17, he recorded 39 Disposals, 6 Marks, 15 Tackles & 2 Goals for 189pts. Lachie Hunter (154pts) was shadowed by James Harmes at times, he recorded 37 Disposals & 10 Marks.

Max Gawn was dominant in the Ruck and managed a solid 105pts returning from an ankle injury, Angus Brayshaw recorded 12 Disposals for just 44pts although he did receive a heavy hit in the 2nd Qtr.

Port Adelaide v Brisbane (AO)

Ollie Wines was exceptional in wet conditions at the Adelaide Oval, he recorded 32 Disposals & 8 Tackles for 131pts.

Jarryd Lyons scored a game high 140pts in Round 17, Cam Sutcliffe went to Lachie Neale (83pts) early.
