Fantasy: The role for Stefan Martin in 2021

The Bulldogs are set to make changes at the ruck position next season, they acquired Stefan Martin in a trade from the Lions last week.

Tim English averaged 16.0 Hit Outs in 2020 often being moved out of the way by stronger opponents at ruck contests, he was very effective early in the season moving forward & rolling back inside defensive 50 for intercept marks.

Martin will provide support at the ruck position with both players alternating forward & around the ground, he discussed what the early plans for 2021 are on Tuesday.

“Part of the equation I think is that we can probably be fairly effective around the ground & up forward.”

“If we can have high energy on the ball & be involved in scoring chains around the ball but also potentially play some different roles as a forward & maybe not necessarily as a stay at home forward that could help too.” Stefan Martin on Tuesday via @RSN927.

Martin (Age: 33) averaged 7.3 Disposals, 1.0 Mark, 2.4 Tackles & 17.1 Hit Outs from 8 games at the Lions in 2020, he has played in 87.4% of games since the beginning of the 2017 H&A season.

AFL FANTASY TAKE

Stefan Martin averaged 47.3pts from 8 games in 2020 for Brisbane, he scored a season high 65pts in the Qualifying Final against Richmond.

The dual ruck set-up at the Bulldogs likely diminishes the fantasy prospects for both Martin & English in 2021, senior coach Luke Beveridge has shown a tendency to shift player roles in-season which could increase scoring volatility.

At this stage Martin is a pass in AFL Fantasy classic & draft unless circumstances change at the Bulldogs.
