Coaching Tendencies/Game Style

After missing finals in 2019 Port Adelaide climbed the ladder to finish on top at the end of the 2020 H&A season, a narrow 6 point defeat against Richmond in the Preliminary Final denied them a spot in the Grand Final.

Port Adelaide remained a strong fantasy relevant team last year, they were ranked 3rd for team disposals in the 2020 H&A season & 2nd in the 2019 H&A season.

After an adjustment in list management strategy midway through 2018 Port Adelaide heavily invested in future talent, in that year Connor Rozee, Zak Butters & Xavier Duursma were selected as top 20 selections.

The club along with senior coach Ken Hinkley bought into the future development, the payoff was almost instant.

In the 2019 AFL Draft Port Adelaide again invested in high end picks, we caught a glimpse of Mitch Georgiades last year while Miles Bergman, Dylan Williams & Jackson Mead are yet to be seen at AFL level.

The Power also added Lachlan Jones at pick 16 in the 2020 AFL draft.

Port Adelaide have been bold playing youth & that likely won’t change again this season under Hinkley, another influx of high end talent should filter into a very strong competitive team over the course of the season.

2021 Targets

Miles Bergman FWD

Bergman does have competition in front of him in a strong Port Adelaide team, his ability to play as an outside tall wing type plus his versatility to play at both ends of the ground could pose opposition match-up problems.

The long term fantasy prospects for Bergman are quite healthy, he missed the ability to compete in the SANFL last year due to Covid but the extra 12 months to prepare for AFL level should prove to be beneficial.

Bergman was selected at pick 14 in the 2019 AFL draft, expectations are high at the Power on his talent & ability.

When a debut is announced, Bergman should be a target.

Jackson Mead MID

Mead will be keen to make his AFL debut in 2021, he was selected at pick 25 in the 2019 AFL Draft.

With no action for Port Adelaide in the SANFL last year due to Covid Mead was virtually sidelined apart from arranged practice games between AFL clubs, the additional 12 months development should have him more than ready to make an impact.

Mead is a contested midfielder/forward type with sharp skills, he’ll initially likely be suited to a small pressure forward role in the Port Adelaide team.

When Meade is named for a debut, he should be a priority target.

Orazio Fantsia DEF/FWD

Fantasia is set to play a half forward type role this season at Port Adelaide, as we know there can be volatility in fantasy scoring at that position.

There are multiple angles to the potential fantasy upside for Fantasia, he is currently well under priced based on his previous scoring history at Essendon making him an instant value option.

Port Adelaide were the 2nd highest scoring team in the 2020 H&A season, if the Power can rank high again Fantasia has the game to impact on the scoreboard.

The Power were also ranked 3rd for team disposals in the 2020 H&A season & are a very strong fantasy scoring team.

Finally the DPP Def/Fwd status provides extra flexibility to your team.

There is potential risk for Fantasia with his recent injury history, additionally the competition for spots is quite strong at Port Adelaide.

If Fantasia completes a strong pre-season & is named comfortably in the best 22 at Round 1 then he provides a discounted option.
